Dream.org Honoree Profile: Leah Thomas
The objective was to introduce and honor Leah Thomas, the founder of Intersectional Environmentalism. The video needed to educate the audience on the critical link between social justice and environmental protection while highlighting the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities.
Our Solution
This production required balancing educational substance with emotional resonance. The timeline centered on Leah's definition of "intersectional environmentalism," incorporating smooth motion graphics to visually connect concepts of "people" and "planet." To emphasize statistics regarding air quality in African-American communities, the team selected a somber yet hopeful musical score that allowed the weight of the data to resonate effectively. The edit alternates between interview footage and gritty environmental imagery, ensuring viewers recognized this work as fundamentally about human survival rather than abstract sustainability principles.
The Results
The resulting video was a moving, thought-provoking piece that clearly articulated a complex philosophy while emotionally connecting the audience to Leah's mission.
